Capitol Risk was the first local band that I loved. I spent a lot of time going to different music shows in the South-West suburbs of Philadelphia. Local shows served as an alternative place to hang out, something different than a restaurant or football game, when welcoming spaces were hard to find as a teenager. I spent a lot of times at those different shows, but rarely cared for the music that was playing. On August 19th, 2006, I went to St. Matt’s Church in Springfield, PA with my friends Becky and Mary. For the first time, a band held my attention from their first note. I never wanted Capitol Risk’s set to end, a feeling I had never had at a show before. I immediately followed them on websites like Purevolume and Myspace, making note of the next time they would be playing in my neighborhood.
