28. Capitol Risk

Capitol Risk broke up too soon. I learned of the news in Becky’s basement, alongside Mary, after they posted the announcement on their Myspace in the fall of 2007. In the twenty years of our friendship, I think it may have been the only time they have seen me shed real tears. It wasn’t just about the band breaking up, though that was a large part of it, but in a way, at sixteen, it was the first time I felt like I was really getting older. I was disappointed that the last time I had seen them at CN Skate Palace, a local skating rink, they hadn’t even been able to finish their set due to time constraints. A few years later though, when I was 19, they had a reunion show. It inconveniently fell during my family’s trip to the Jersey Shore, but I finagled my way back to Philly to see the show with Becky. That time, they got to finish their set. Now, you won’t find their music on any streaming sites. However, if you go searching hard enough on YouTube, you might find an upload of one of their songs.
