The Academy Is… is the first band I recall seeing at my very first Warped Tour on August 3rd, 2006 at the (then) Tweeter Center in Camden, NJ. Becky had blessedly convinced her dad to take us. Warped Tour was a right of passage for anyone that enjoyed punk, pop-punk, emo, and all of it’s other subgenres between the 90s and early 00s. It was a traveling music festival that rolled in to cities for a single day. Stages were scattered across the venue, and each day the setlist rotated so it was impossible to make a game plan until you were standing in front of the large inflatable schedule at the center of the venue. The Academy Is… were one of the bands I was most excited to see, so it was a blessing to have them play so early in the day. Becky and I were able to stand close to the stage, while her dad had opted to post up in the shaded amphitheater for the duration of the event. We didn’t last very long that first Warped Tour, and tapped out early after having seen most of the bands we had on our wish list.
